HOW DO I OBTAIN A COPY OF A SERVICE RECORD?
The process for obtaining a copy of your relative's Service Record is quite detailed (the link to the form you require is further down this page). You cannot apply without the written permission of the next of kin and there can be some considerable delay between applying and receiving the information.
The information you receive will vary from individual to individual but should include a list of each ship (or shore station) in which they served, plus any promotions, changes of rating etc.
There are a few things you MUST include -
1) written authority of the Next of Kin, 2) Evidence of their death (photocopy of a death certificate) and there is also a charge (Check the information on the form for the current amount required).
